County Tree Planting Event Enhances Park Environmental Protection Efforts

150 native shade trees were planted at John Prince Park in Lake Worth on Saturday, June 1—a collaboration between the Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Department, Community Greening and the Florida Forest Service, highlighting an important step in the County’s strategic priority of Environmental Protection.

The event brought together community members, volunteers, and environmental advocates, all working together to enhance the local ecosystem. The addition of these native shade trees will not only beautify the park but also contribute to improved air quality, increased biodiversity, and greater resilience against climate impact.

Tammy Burton, Environmental Manager for Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation, expressed her enthusiasm for the project, “I’m proud to be part of such a great event bringing the community together to participate in our environmental protection initiatives. Thanks to Community Greening and the Florida Forest Service these trees will be enjoyed for many years to come!”

Funding for this project was provided by the USDA Forest Service through the Florida Forest Service’s Urban and Community Forestry Grant Program. The event highlighted the County’s dedication to securing partnerships that drive positive environmental change. Community Greening, a nonprofit organization focused on enhancing urban green spaces, played a crucial role in organizing and executing the tree planting; while the Florida Forest Service provided support and expertise, ensuring that the trees were planted in the best possible conditions for growth and longevity.

A representative from Community Greening commented on the significance of the collaboration, “We are thrilled to partner with the Florida Forest Service and PBC Parks and Recreation to engage our community to plant native trees along the Heart Trail at John Prince Park. Added shade encourages residents
