Power of Parks: Sandi Schwartz

Episode 19 features Sandi Schwartz — a Palm Beach County resident and author of “Finding Ecohappiness: Fun Nature Activities to Help Your Kids Feel Happier and Calmer.” She’s also a passionate environmentalist, and spent years working in the environmental field and she’s dedicated to helping others recognize the ways nature can help minimize stress and increase happiness.

Episode 17 is a partnership with the Palm Beach County Water Utilities Department in honor of August as National Water Quality Month, and features Diana Perez. Diana is a project coordinator with PBC WUD. The episode was recorded at Green Cay Nature Center and Wetlands, where Diana discusses the Green Cay Phase II expansion project.

Episode 16 features Jessica Gray, the founder of Boca Save Our Beaches, a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting marine ecosystems through community collaboration, conservation, and educational awareness. There’s also a long-time Adopt-A-Park Partner with PBC Parks and they host a number of beach cleanups throughout the year. In the podcast, Jessica shares some of the ways the organization helps PBC Parks achieve our goal of promoting stewardship of natural sites.

Episode 15 features Sandy Mannon, a yoga teacher who teaches Yoga in the Park at Veteran’s Park, a Village of Royal Palm Beach-operated park. She prefers teaching outdoors so her students can experience the full benefits of nature in their practice. Sandy is also a Nurse Practitioner who focuses on wellness and aging gracefully and recognizes the role of nature and parks on both.

In honor of May as mental health awareness month, episode 14 features Dr. Shayna Ginsburg. She’s the chief of clinical services, education, and training for the palm beach county youth services department. Shayna joined the podcast via Zoom to talk about the ‘Get Your Green On” campaign, the importance of mental health, and the ways in which visiting parks and spending time in nature can help contribute to better mental health.

Episode 13 features Colby Zebarth, a Palm Beach County resident and 14-year-old rider at Shark Wake Park inside Okeeheelee Park. Colby was recently crowned the 2020 Junior Pro World Champion at the World Wake Association Wake Park World Championships just 15 months after starting his wakeboard training at the park.

Also joining the conversation is Greg Norman, Jr. – the owner of Shark Wake Park inside Okeeheelee Park. They offer a variety of adventurous water activities, including cable wakeboarding and kneeboarding, a floating obstacle course, and more.

In the podcast, she shares her passion for nature and explains why everyone should get out to a trail for their mental and physical wellness.

Welcome to Power of Parks, a podcast produced by the Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Department, where we share inspiring stories from people who have benefited from nature, parks and recreation. Episode 11 features Emily Briceno, Jemma Currie, and Marina Barto. They’re students who lead a group called Surface 71, a non-profit organization that helps keep our oceans and communities clean by raising awareness of plastic pollution, hosting and participating in cleanup events in parks and beaches, and working to get other students involved in their efforts.

Episode 9 features guest Charles Gilbert, the founder of the Coalition of Men of Palm Beach County, an organization that ensures boys in Belle Glade, South Bay, Pahokee and surrounding areas are able to read at or above grade level by or before the third grade. He’s also an avid supporter of parks and recognizes the benefits of recreational facilities and activities.
