Power of Parks: Rachel Stauffer

Episode 7 features guest Zachary Gottsagen, a Palm Beach County local who participates in Arts4All – Florida – Palm Beach County programs and stars alongside Shia LaBeouf and Dakota Johnson in the movie, Peanut Butter Falcon. Zach has Down syndrome, and the movie is garnering positive attention for being one of the few movies where an individual with Down syndrome is cast in a leading role.

Wheelchair Course: John Prince Park

In 1983, Palm Beach County resident Fred Sandberg helped bring a ‘Wheelchair Accessible Heart Trail’ to John Prince Park. 35 years later, he helped PBC Parks make renovations and additions to the Wheelchair Course.

Watch Fred’s story to learn about the course, how it’s helped him, and how it continues to help the Palm Beach County community stay active and healthy.

Power of Parks: Kelly Shanahan

Episode 5 features guest Kelly Shanahan. Shanahan is a Junior Golfer who plays at Osprey Point Golf Course inside Burt Aaronson South County Regional Park in West Boca. In 2018, she was awarded the “Challenge Tour Player of the Year” Honors and won four of eight competitive events, finishing top 5 in all but one tournament. She’s on the golf team at her school, and aspires to play the game of golf in a collegiate setting – listen to Episode 5 of Power of Parks to hear about the ways in which golf continues to inspire and benefit her, physically and mentally.

Power of Parks: Marco Dispaltro

Episode 4 features guest Marco Dispaltro, an athlete who plays at the CMAA Therapeutic Recreation Complex in Lake Worth and is responsible for bringing the popular adaptive sport, Boccia, to the facility. Marco has played Boccia worldwide, and has been ranked the number one player in the world. He also plays and coaches other sports, like wheelchair rugby.

Episode 3 features guest Ed McClure, a volunteer at Okeeheelee Nature Center who worked 30 years in the corporate world and after searching for a productive and exciting way to spend his retired life, found a new passion at the nature center. Now, he greets and feeds animals, cleans their areas, and works on special projects like the butterfly garden.
