As explained by Lee Powell, Manager of Westgate Park and Recreation Center, having such an event is important for the local community.

“It provides an opportunity for them to see all the agencies that are available and it also brings families together to enjoy a day at the park.” explained Powell.

Games, leisure activities, DJ entertainment, a water-splash pad, art tent, mural project, and social and community service exhibits were available for families to enjoy. Free food and drinks were also provided.

John Prince Park welcomed national, international athletes for 16th annual Knock and Roll Tournament

Wheelchair Rugby players from South Florida, Tampa, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Michigan, Philadelphia, Jacksonville and Switzerland went head-to-head for the trophy in a three-day tournament at the Club Managers Association of America (CMAA) Therapeutic Recreation Complex in Lake Worth.

Wheelchair Rugby, or Quad Rugby, is a game for individuals with disabilities; the players glide down the court, bumping and hitting each other’s chairs along the way, in what makes for an exciting and powerful sport meant to increase athletic participation among individuals with physical disabilities.

The CMAA Therapeutic Recreation Complex is owned and operated by the Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Department and is located in John Prince Park at 2728 Lake Worth Road in Lake Worth. Providing for athletic programming and facilities is one of the department’s core services and it is firmly committed to the spirit of and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Westgate residents enjoy free fun, win Thanksgiving turkeys at Annual Turkey Shoot

On November 12, families took to Westgate Park and Recreation Center to enjoy a night of free games, activities, and a chance to win Thanksgiving turkeys at the 12th Annual Westgate Turkey Shoot. Kids and adults participated in games for all ages – the turkey hunt, turkey pop, turkey sack race, basketball free throw shooting contest, three-point shooting contest and family shooting contest.

Turkeys were given to the first place winner of each age category – male and female. Twelve turkeys were awarded to participants, on behalf of the Westgate CRA and Rodriguez Charities.

“It brings the community together, they get a chance to see each other, normally they don’t see each other on a regular basis – and some of them win a free turkey for Thanksgiving,” said Lee Powell, Westgate’s Facility Manager.

Westgate Park and Recreation Center is located at 3691 Oswego Avenue in West Palm Beach and is owned and operated by the Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Department. Amenities include two lighted basketball courts, a lighted multipurpose field, a playground, a soccer field, splashpark, game room, gymnasium and more.
